While there are no strictly defined legal definitions or standards, clean label usually refers to:
– Product using as few ingredients as possible
– Product ingredients being natural, trustworthy and easy-to-recognize (‘kitchen level’)
– Absence of artificial ingredients or synthetic chemicals
GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism, and refers to plants, animals or other organisms whose genetic material has been changed in ways that do not occur naturally.
Non-GMO label means that all product ingredients were derived from plants, animals, or other organisms whose genetic material has not been artificially altered in a laboratory.
When applied to plant-based products like Fish Peas, Non-GMO label suggests that less pesticides were used for cultivation.
Gluten is a protein found in many grains, including wheat, barley and rye. These proteins are resistant to human digestion and provide no essential nutrients. In people with celiac disease, gluten triggers the immune system to attack the small intestine. Even trace amounts of gluten can cause significant damage. Therefore, Fish Peas is safe for consumers with this autoimmune disease.
European Union recognizes following 14 food ingredients as top allergens:
1. Cereals containing gluten
7. Milk (including lactose)
11. Sesame seed
12. Sulphur dioxide and sulphites
Fish Peas is free of these ingredients and therefore is safe for most food-allergic consumers.
